The Alpha's Return

Chapter 58 - Can't Die?

"Now let\'s talk.", he said with a rough voice.

"Talk about what? We need to move further. It was clear that he was stalling. We need to move as fast as possible so that we can thwart whatever sinister plan that this marquess is plotting.", Eva said.

"This is more important.", Praneeth, who had reached them, said.

"More important? How?", Mu Chen asked hesitantly.

"More important, because according to what we heard from Elyon, the leader of all the werewolves that we faced, the backing of the organization or whatever the marquess is a part of, could be more than one god, and could also be the gods of the underworld. The people that we have faced could very well return from the dead, and that will be devastating.", Praneeth said.

Every one sucked in a breath of air.

"Does that mean that everything that we have done so far is pointless?", Angela asked.

"Of course not. They don\'t want us to see what is in the top floor, so we will barge up there and make sure that we do, and that we stop it.", Lucas said.

"Alright then. Now that you know, we better keep moving. Do not have even the slightest hesitation when facing anyone. They might be coming back, so do not feel any remorse.", Praneeth said.

"Guys?", Mu Chen said with a stutter.

"What?", Lucas asked irritated.

"Look around us. Where are all the bodies? I am sure that we killed at least thirty people. I can\'t see anything except the blood on the floor.".

Lucas turned around sharply. Indeed, except for stains of blood, there was nothing to be seen. He shouted with frustration and stamped his right foot on the ground.

"Damn it!"

"This is bad. This all but confirms what we just learnt. We are indeed, in deep trouble unless we stop this whole organization. Lucas, tone down your blood thirst. Their death means nothing now, and we need information more than ever now. That means that we need them alive, not dead. Dead means they are useless.", Praneeth said.

"Fine, whatever. But Peter dies. He is probably a pawn in the marquess\' hands, and he is better of dead that alive. Even if the gods of the underworld are allowing some to return to the mortal world, they can probably only do that to some. Or else, the rest of the gods will catch wind of this very, very quickly.", Lucas said.

"Fine. Only Peter, and the small fries. Leave anyone who might know even a little but. Right now, for us, knowledge will be our life blood, not just power.", Praneeth conceded.

"Alright. So then, where do we go? If you haven\'t noticed, we are surrounded by mist with no sense of direction. How do we go to the next floor?", Raphael asked.

Lucas and the rest all looked at Eva almost immediately.

"Why me? Praneeth is the high priest right?", Eva quickly retorted.

"Because you are the one who studied these things specifically when you grew up.", Raphael shrugged.

"Fine.", Eva grumbled. "You better protect me. I need to take a look all over this place. It is very unfamiliar to me, and I need to sense the whole floor to see where we are going.", Eva said.

"Alright. Who will be able to touch you when I am guarding you?", Lucas said haughtily.

Eva rolled her eyes and sat on the ground. She closed her eyes, and put her legs in the lotus position. Around her, a slight glow could be seen, but it was masked to a huge extent by the mist around her.

Her mouth was moving, but her voice did not come out of her throat. She started moving her arms as well, as if doing some sort of dance while sitting down.

All of them looked at her with expectant eyes, and Lucas was pacing around.

"Why did those idiots have the idea to block the power of the gods here? Now we have to waste so much time because Praneeth is essentially useless.", Lucas sighed.

"There is nothing that any of us can do about it. All I will be able to do now is use all the knowledge I have, and make sure that you don\'t do anything stupid. Why do I feel that this is more important than having an all seeing eye?", Praneeth retorted.

"Found it!", Eva exclaimed as she opened her eyes.

"Thank God.", everyone sighed a breath of relief.

"So then, where is the stair case to the next floor?", Angela asked.

"Follow me.", Eva smiled.

"That is what we did since the beginning of the day, is it not.", Lucas said as he walked behind Eva. Eva was going forward in a completely different direction from where the werewolves appeared, but no one said anything about it. They were not that foolish to think that the entrance to the next floor would obviously be there. The layout of this building itself was very skewed, and they knew now to expect the unexpected.

They walked for a few minutes, and Lucas finally grew annoyed.

"What the hell is wrong with this place. I remember seeing it from outside. It wasn\'t that big. Why are we walking for so long inside though?", Lucas said.

"Who knows what tricks they used? I once saw a small shack be the entrance to a whole palace inside. The wonders of the world are endless.", Eva said.

"But those are beyond rare, and I am certain that this is not the same case. Are you sure that we are going in the right direction?", Lucas asked her.

"We are almost there.", Eva said.
